Emergency extraction and drying are those steps. Flood and sewer backup are often excluded unless you have separate coverage, so check your policy.

Get everyone to safety first. If it is safe, shut off the water at the main valve or the fixture, and stay away from standing water near outlets or cords. Move valuables out of the way, and take photos of the damage for your insurance claim before anything is cleaned up. If the electrical panel or outlets are in or near water, leave the power alone and tell us when you call.
